Contributor Tier System

Note: Tiers are only applicable to All-Time Rankings

1) Explorer

(onboarded contributor)
How to earn: first accepted contribution in any track.
Privileges: profile on the leaderboard; access to contributor channels.
Expectations: follow CoC, ship at least 1 contribution/month.

2) Builder

(consistent contributor)
How to earn: 50+ points and 3+ accepted contributions
Privileges: Receive Logos SWAG, can co-host community calls, can mentor Explorers.
Expectations: quality, responsiveness in reviews/issues.

3) Champion

(area reviewer / content or design lead)
How to earn: appointed by maintainers(CCs + Governors) after showing review maturity.
Privileges: reviewer permissions (approve PRs/docs in scoped areas); run working groups.
Expectations: active reviewing; uphold standards; guide roadmaps.

4) Governor

(approver/maintainer equivalent)
How to earn: nominated by Councils after sustained impact and reliability.
Privileges: merge/approve in scope, start initiatives, snapshot proposals access.
Expectations: governance participation, succession planning, incident stewardship.

5) Council

(core decision-maker)
How to earn: elected from the community, time-boxed term
Privileges: final say on tier promotions, sets seasonal themes and weighting, convenes town halls.
Expectations: transparency, publish quarterly contributor report

Scoring System

Baseline points (per accepted/approved contribution)

  • GitHub Issue opened with clear repro/spec: 3 pts
  • Git Commit (part of merged PR): 1 pt
  • Pull Request merged (code or docs): 7 pts
  • Code Review: 3 pts
  • Spec/ADR/Design Doc merged: 8 pts
  • Blog post: 5 pts
  • Translation: per 500 approved words: 4 pts
  • Design asset (UI kit, logo set, infographic) adopted: 6 pts
  • Meetup/Workshop organized (online/offline): 10 pts
  • Talk/Panel delivered at event: 7 pts
  • Mentorship (onboard a Seeker to first merged PR or published work): 6 pts

Quality multipliers (apply once per item)

  • Impact label (Council tags):
    • impact:high × 1.5 (e.g., security fix, major doc, large translation)
    • impact:critical × 2.0 (e.g., CVE patch, pivotal spec)
  • First-time contributor bonus: +3 pts on first accepted item
